More than 350 built environment professionals came together in east London for the inaugural Built Environment Football and Netball World Cups, a new industry sporting event held in partnership with the Property Sports Network.
The tournaments took place at Leyton Orient’s Brisbane Road Stadium and the nearby Score Leisure Centre in Leyton, bringing together professionals from across the sector for a day of competition, networking and fundraising.
A total of 24 teams and more than 300 players participated in the football tournament, which was sponsored by Finch Contracts. After a highly competitive day of action, 4B Projects emerged as the inaugural champions. Foreview secured second place, while CPC Project Services finished third.
The football competition featured teams from across the industry, including Adair, Addleshaw Goddard, Bellrock, Building, Capital Property & Construction Consultants, Core Five, Elliott Wood, Evaluation, Feat Factory, Fenwick Elliott, Finch Contracts, Gleeds, Kilnbridge, KS4 Consulting Services, Logic Planning, MAPP, Permasteelisa, Playle & Partners, Volterra, Watts and Watson Farley & Williams, among others.
Meanwhile, the netball tournament saw nine teams compete in a round-robin format at the Score Leisure Centre. Exigere claimed the inaugural title, finishing ahead of Trowers & Hamlins in second place and Building’s own team in third.
The other netball teams taking part included ADP Consulting, i-Transport, Laytons, Newmark, Planning Potential and the Rest of the World.
Tom Broughton, managing director of Assemble Media Group, publisher of Building, praised the success of the event and said it had established a strong platform for future tournaments.
“From the very seed of an idea, it’s turned into something fantastic,” he said. “The spirit we wanted it to be played in was absolutely there. While everyone was highly competitive, they played in the right way.
“We had very worthy winners and everyone went away having had a fantastic time, which is exactly what we wanted. The main thing now is to get everyone back next year.
“We want to make the event even bigger and better in 2027, bring in more teams and welcome back all those who took part this year.”
In addition to providing a unique opportunity for professionals across the built environment sector to connect and compete, the event also raised much-needed funds for Haven House Children’s Hospice as part of Building’s ongoing support for the charity.
Following the success of its inaugural year, organisers are already looking ahead to 2027, with plans to expand the tournament and welcome even more teams from across the industry.
